Becoming a Criminal Defense & Appellate Lawyer

Nathan Swanson received his B.A. from Colorado College in 2004, an M.A. with merit from King’s College London in 2006, and his law degree from University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2009.

While in law school, he served as a student attorney with the Civil Rights Clinic representing people incarcerated in the Supermax prison in Colorado. The Civil Rights Clinic emphasizes analytical and writing skills, fact development and case theory, and helps student lawyers become highly conscious of strategic decisions made during litigation. It instills in students a deep sense of responsibility for the capacity of the law and legal institutions to do justice. Nathan Swanson’s experience working with the Civil Rights Clinic helped him become a compassionate and rigorous attorney who is committed to serving his clients effectively and responsibly. He was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 2009, Missouri Bar in 2010 and Illinois Bar in 2011.

Nathan Swanson began his law career in Denver in civil litigation, then moved to Missouri to pursue his dream of working in criminal defense. As a criminal defense attorney at the St. Louis law firm of Rosenblum Schwartz & Fry, Nathan Swanson won several criminal cases for his clients, and developed a solid reputation as a DUI and DWI attorney. He has since become a breakout star in appellate law, winning such high-profile cases as Russell Faria’s criminal appeal, which was featured on Dateline NBC.
